A Bit About The Vineyard

Shoot the Moon was established in 2021, in Skagit Valley, Washington. Since its creation, we’ve slowly converted a hay field into an ever-growing vineyard with varietals that thrive in our cool maritime climate. The vines are farmed with organic practices and with the help of our ducks and sheep. We believe that the best grapes are produced by working alongside nature and building healthy, biodiverse environments. We strive to create wine with minimal intervention that showcases the nuances of our surroundings.

A Bit About The Farm

Aka why do we have so many ducks!? Our property houses a small flock of sheep, four pigs, an elusive barn cat, one beehive, lots of chickens, a massive amount of ducks, an anxious house dog, and two very large guardian dogs to oversee them all. We use these animals to help holistically manage the farm. The sheep and pigs mow the field plus they fertilize the ground. The chickens eat bugs and help turn compost, and the ducks eat the slugs & snails that love to munch on everything.

To help support the grapevines and menagerie of animals we’ve planted an orchard, started a half-acre garden plot, and are actively working towards restoring our woods to help native species thrive. We care for all these living things using organic and holistic practices. If we humans can’t ingest it neither should our plants and animals.

A Bit About Us

Lauren Bennett

Property/Livestock Manager & Gardener

female farmer with black copper maran rooster

Lauren (better known as Kilby) and her masses of red hair are pretty easy to spot, which is great because she’s usually wandered off to hang out with the animals. She loves peaty scotch, long meals with friends, knitting, apricots, and daydreaming about a bottle of orange wine she had on vacation. She is the grounding force of Shoot the Moon and believes in pouring her whole heart into the care of its land and animals.

Wine Maker & Farmer

Bennett is a Jersey transplant who has a knack for solving problems with outlandish solutions. Which, it’s safe to say, is how he ended up starting his vineyard. He loves blueberries, hiking, books by Murakami, beating Kilby at a game of gin, and Riesling. He believes that a great glass of wine effortlessly showcases its environment, and above all else, bubbles are to be enjoyed for any occasion.
